Staff report

Katrina Geiger set a school record by scoring 10 goals and also tallied the game-winner with 12 seconds to play as host Haverford High rallied for a stunning 14-13 victory Tuesday over Henderson in the first round of the District 1 girls’ lacrosse playoffs.

The Fords (12-7), seeded No. 13, advance to play at Central League rival Harriton Thursday at 4 p.m. Henderson, seeded No. 19, finishes up at 13-6.

The Fords overcame an incredible disadvantage due to several key infractions. They trailed by five goals with 10:18 to play, were one player short because of a red card for the last 14:43 of the game and were two players down for the final 14:29 after being assessed a fourth yellow card.

But Geiger, a junior that has committed to Loyola, took over and tallied five goals in the last 10 minutes, Her 10 goals broke the Haverford High single-game record of eight set 20 years ago by Laura Harmon.

Henderson took a 13-8 lead with 10:27 to play on a goal by Morgan Daugherty (two tallies). Geiger scored 10 seconds later and then cut the deficit to 13-10 with 7:32 left.

Geiger then won the next draw scored 12 seconds later to make it 13-11.With 4:09 left, Geiger scored on an 8-meter. Amanda Case tied it with 56 seconds left on an 8-meter shot.

Jill Root (three goals) then won the draw control and later Geiger went left to right across the arc and won it, setting off a wild celebration even before the buzzer.
