Gwynedd Mercy is in its third year of play at the varsity level. Last year the Griffins went 10-5 and reached the Colonial States Athletic Conference finals, bowing to 10-time champion Cabrini College. The head coach is Dana Lindstrom.

Phillippi, a consistent Honor Roll, student, plans to dual major in mathematics and education at the college.

“Coaches Lindstrom and (Mickey) Hover are great, they really care about the student in student-athlete. That was really important to me and my family,” said Phillippi. “I liked the small school atmosphere when I visited. The players were great, they all get along together really well.”

Despite being injured the last seven games of the season, Phillippi was a Second Team All-Berks County pick last year for the Jays. The team went 3-13, but is looking to rebound in 2011.

“Our goal is to make the playoffs,” said Phillippi. “We only lost one senior from the varsity and have a lot of young players with good skills coming in.”

Phillippi also plays club lacrosse for Blue Mountain. “I’d like to thank Coach Doug Bailey and all the coaches at Blue Mountain for helping me develop as a player and person,” said Phillippi. “There are a number of players from the team going on to play Division I or Division III in college. It was a great experience”.

Phillippi is the fifth Philly senior to commit to Gwynedd Mercy. Parkland senior defenseman Matt Bashore,
Great Valley’s Peter Pappas (face-off specialist/midfielder) and Ryan Wheeler (defenseman/LSM) and Methacton’s Ryan Murphy (goalie) also have committed to Gwynedd Mercy.
