Foxboro (Mass.) junior Greg Stamatov, a nationally-ranked goalie, has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Villanova University.

Foxboro High (Mass.) junior goalie Greg Stamatov has committed to Villanova

Stamatov, the Inside Lacrosse No. 31 Young Gun, led his Warriors to a 16-4 record last year. He also excels in football and ice hockey.

Stamatov, who plays club lacrosse for NESLL Whalers, also considered North Carolina, Duke, Dartmouth, Penn State, Vermont and Loyola. He said a key to choosing Villanova was the coaching staff, led by Villanova alum Michael Corrado.

“I chose Villanova because everything there was a perfect fit for me,” he said. “The program is getting better and better and I’m thrilled to be a part of it in the future.

“All of the coaches are Villanova graduates which was different than all of the other schools, which I found very interesting. Since they are graduates, they truly have the desire to win and represent the school well.”

Stamatov will study Business.

“The players were all great guys, as I met a good amount of them at my overnight visit,” he said. “The academic and athletic level is exceptionally high, and it all takes place on a beautiful campus.”

At only 5-8, 140 pounds, Stamatov relies heavily on his skills and smarts.

“What I lack in size and strength, I make up in quickness, communication with the defense, and precision during clears,” he said. “These three components are just as, if not more important, than size. I work on my technique, stick skills, and fundamentals more than anything else.”
