Archbishop Carroll rising senior attack Genni Hull used personal experience in her decision to major in pre-med after making a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at American University.
“I had compartment syndrome a couple years ago and went to all these doctors,” said Hull, 
who plans to study orthopedic medicine. “That interested me. The school just had everything I was looking for.”
Hull noted that compartment syndrome occurs when fascia tissue surrounds a muscle group in the leg. Her case caused her blood flow to be affected, making her leg tight and therefore making it difficult to train and stay in good shape for athletics.
Her problem was corrected through surgery.
Hull said she loves the Washington D.C. area and the feel of the campus, as well as head coach Katie Woods.
“Coach Woods is a great coach and it’s a great academic school,” said Hull, who will be joined at American by Pennridge midfielder Emily Maher. “D.C. is a fun city. It’s a natural arboretum; it’s so pretty there.”
Hull was second on the Patriots with 42 goals and led Carroll in shooting percentage (64 percent) in 2009. She was named an Academic All-American, First Team All-Catholic League and Honorable Mention All-Phillylacrosse.com in helping the Pats win their ninth straight Catholic League championship while advancing to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association quarterfinals.
In addition, she was a member of the Philly 3 team at the Women’s Division National Tournament in May. Hull plays club lacrosse for the Phantastix.
Hull transferred in to Carroll from Conestoga, where she played as a freshman and sophomore. She was thrilled to come to a program that has enjoyed so much success.
“I had known the coach (Lorraine Beers) because she coaches me with the Phantastix,” Hull said. “It was so exciting to win the Catholic League. We’ve won it nine years in a row and it’s really cool to be a part of that experience.
“We also were the first Carroll team to contend for a state title. That was exciting.”
Hull, who will serve as a tri-captain next year, is the second Carroll rising senior to commit to a Division I college. Attack Aimee Gennaro has committed to the Naval Academy.
“I think we’re really looking to build on our success from last year,” Hull said. “We graduated seven or eight seniors, but we have a lot of returning girls. We have a strong underclass and we’ll be looking for them to step up and help us to have a really good season.”
