Women’s recruit: GA senior midfielder Ebbott signs Letter of Intent with rising program Fairfield University

Germantown Academy midfielder Maggie Ebbott has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I lacrosse at Fairfield University.

Ebbott was a second-team All-Inter-Ac League pick in 2009, helping Germantown Academy finish 16-11 overall. She had 61 goals and 46 assists and also earned Honorable Mention All-Phillylacrosse.com.

Ebbott noted that Fairfield last year enjoyed it best season ever. The Stags went 17-3, equaling the program record for wins in a season, on their way to capture the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League regular season and tournament crowns.

Fairfield then defeated Sacred Heart in an NCAA Play-In Game to earn their first-ever berth to the NCAA Tournament.  The Stags gave fourth-ranked Penn all it could handle in the first round meeting, before succumbing 10-8 to the Quakers, who advanced to the Final Four.

“I chose Fairfield for the combination of lacrosse and academics,” Ebbott said, adding she is considering a major of Public Relations. “They have a very strong academic program and they’re really up and coming in lacrosse. Last year they had a really good season and I’m excited to come in and try to make an impact as best I can.”

Ebbott said she enjoyed the campus at Fairfield, located on the beach in eastern Connecticut.

“To begin with, it’s the perfect distance form home – 3 hours away, just what I was looking for,” she said. “And it’s right on the beach; you can’t get better than that.

“The campus is pretty condensed and everything is within walking distance.”

Ebbott is an Honor Roll student who received the Youth Scholarship Award after her freshman year for academics and athletic leadership.

Ebbott also is looking forward to the 2010 season at GA, though she admits the team will be young.

“We had some indoor games and pickup games and everyone has been working together, which is a plus,” she said. “If we work really hard, we have a lot of potential.”
