Great Valley senior defender Rachel Kalick has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Stanford University.

Third Team Ches-Mont League honors and helped the Patriots win the Ches-Mont title. Kalick, who plays club lacrosse for Mongoose, also competed for team Philly in the Under Armour Underclassmen Games.

She plans to major in International Relations at Stanford, coached by Phoenixville graduate Amy Bokker, also an assistant for the US Elite National team.

“I chose Stanford because I always wanted to go West,” said Kalick. “I looked at as many West Coast schools as I could, and I wanted to be challenged academically and lacrosse-wise.

“Obviously, going to Stanford is one of the best decisions I could make.”

Kalick said that her high school and club coach, Joe Tornetta, has a connection with Bokker and recommended she look closely at Stanford.

“Mr. Tornetta helped us find each other,” Kalick said. “I wasn’t really looking there until he told her about me. She called me and saw me play and I went to the campus in the summer.”

Last year Bokker led the Cardinal to a 15-6 record, a Mountain Pacific championship and a berth in the NCAA play-in game. Stanford defeated Massachusetts to reach the 16-team field, and then dropped a 9-8 heartbreaker to seventh-seeded James Madison.

Kalick, whose team made the District 1 semifinals last year and advanced to states, said the Pats have high goals for 2011.

“We have high expectations,” she said. “My goal is a state championship. I want us to leave school with a bang.”

Kalick is the second Great Valley senior to commit to a Division I college. Earlier, attack Sara McBride committed to Connecticut.

Seniors can sign a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period Nov. 10-17
