Hofstra University has released the schedule for the 2nd Annual Nick Colleluori Women’s Lacrosse Classic, to be held Saturday, Sept. 25, in Hempstead, N.Y.
The tournament was the first of its kind on the women’s side to help raise funds and awareness for the HEADstrong Foundation and blood cancer research. The foundation is dedicated to the memory of Nick Colleluori, a 2004 Ridley High graduate who died four years ago due to Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma while a student-athlete at Hofstra.
Participating in the tournament will be 15 teams, including Philly’s La Salle and Temple, and host Hofstra, coached by Great Valley graduate Abby Morgan. Other teams are Adelphi, CW Post, Bentley, Iona, Long Island University, Stonehill, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and a pair of post-collegiate teams (New York Athletic Club and Long Island Squids).
Each squad will play four games and the schedule of the contests will be announced at a later date. Each team will be provided with lime green laces to be worn during the tournament to show their support.
In addition to a great day of lacrosse, there will also be a variety of items associated with the HEADstrong Foundation for sale, including the lime green laces. All funds raised during the tournament will go directly to the HEADstrong Foundation.
