Eagles, who qualified for the District 1 tournament. Lawton, who plays club lacrosse for Rebel Elite, played in the Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association Showcase in 2009 and 2010 and made the Fab 40 team at the Philly Lacrosse Showcase last year.

Lawton plans to major in business and said he liked the location of the school and its improving reputation for lacrosse. Last year the Leopards were ranked much of the season in the Top 20 and finished 8-6 overall.

“It’s a great academic school and it has a great lacrosse program,” said Lawton, who takes honors classes at Bishop Shanahan.

Lawton will be joined as a Lafayette recruit by Rebel defenseman Carl Lampe (Episcopal Academy). “He called me as soon as he committed and I called him, too,” Lawton said. “We’ll probably be rooming together by our second year.”

Lawton, who wished to thank rebel Elite coach Harry Sankey and Shanahan coach Jon Heisman for helping in the recruiting process and his development, is optimistic that the Eagles will challenge in the Ches-Mont in 2011.

“We should be pretty good,” he said. “I definitely think we’ll be up there. Coach Heisman did a real good job last year (in his first season).”
