Top-seeded Wissahickon broke open a 5-5 game with a second-half surge and downed second-seeded Council Rock, 11-6, today in the Philadelphia Area Girls’ Lacrosse Association East 7th-8th Grade Championship game at the Plymouth Whitemarsh Victory Field.

A stingy Wissahickon (12-0 league) defense led by Dominique Nyzio, Alana Stutman, and Jane Black allowed the Rock only one goal over the last 25 minutes

Tori Lyons opened the scoring for Council Rock two minutes into the game, but Wissahickon responded with four unanswered goals from Catherine Perlmutter, Emilee Ehret, Lizzie Tillger and Olivia Gannon.

The Rock cut it to 4-2 on a nifty spin and shoot move by Hannah Bogorowski with just under eight minutes to play. Laura Frankenfield scored for Wissahickon to make it 5-2, but Council Rock tied it on goals by Amanda Besselman, Bogorowski and then Christine Besselman with only :08 remaining in the half.

Wissahickon responded in the second half, though, as Maddie Quirk, Gannon, and Tillger scored to make it 8-5.  Council Rock scored its only goal of the second half on a Lyons tally, but after a CR turnover, Rachel Flynn made it 9-6 with a strong face dodge capped off with a left handed scoring strike.

Laura Frankenfield’s second goal of the day gave Wissahickon a 10-6 lead and Gannon’s free positon goal with just over a minute to go sealed it.

Rachel Stone was credited with seven saves in goal for Wissahickon.
