Former Philadelphia Wing Marechek inducted into US Lacrosse Hall of Fame

November 19, 2008 by Chris Goldberg

Former Philadelphia Wings great Tom Marechek received a second Hall of Fame honor last weekend when he was inducted into the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

The ceremony took place on at the Grand Lodge in Hunt Valley, Md. Joining Marechek in the class of 2008 was a group that included Princeton women’s coach Chris Sailer, a Haverford High graduate.

Marechek, also a 2007 National Lacrosse League HOF inductee, was an All-American at Syracuse, a member of Canada’s national team, and now a successful coach at the scholastic level in Maryland.

During his pro career, Marechek became the Wings’ all-time leading scorer over his 12 seasons with the franchise. He won four championships with the Wings, and following his retirement the Wings retired Marechek’s #42 and raised a banner to the rafters of the Wachovia Center to commemorate the achievement. It’s the first and only retired number in Wings history.

Prior to joining the Wings, Marechek was an All-American player at Syracuse University, where he won two NCAA championships.

Marechek joins Gary Gait, Paul Gait, Mike French and Sal LoCascio as part of a select group of individuals who are members of both the National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame and the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
