Trimble, Philly 1 team fared well at National Tournament with 3rd-place finish

Taylor Trimble admitted it was a little disappointing when the defending champion Philly 1 team got eliminated from the title race by Baltimore in the semifinals of the Schoolgirls Division at the US Lacrosse National Tournament Saturday in Bel Air, MD.

But overall, Trimble said Philly 1 left the tourney pleased with a third-place finish.

“We had a young team and it seemed like every player on the Baltimore team was going to Maryland or another major Division I school,” said Trimble, an Episcopal Academy junior midfielder who became the third player in the history of the event to be named a two-time winner of the Heather Leigh Albert MVP Award. “It definitely was a different team (from 2009), but I think did have a really good showing.

“We only had two loses, to Long Island 1 (the eventual champion) and to Baltimore 1.

Philly 1 was coached by Lorraine Beers (Archbishop Carroll) and Dee Cross (Upper Dublin).

Beers said the Philly 1 attack enjoyed a strong tourney and cited the defensive play of Maggie Forker (Episcopal Academy), Springfield-Delco freshman Alex Poplawski and Germantown Academy sophomore Brooke Kiley and midfield play of Trimble (who has committed to Duke), Alyssa DiBona (Archbishop Carroll) and Katrina Geiger (Haverford High). Goalies Allie Murray (Downingtown East) and Annie Woehling (Radnor) also had strong showings.

Philly 1 defeated Northern New Jersey 1 in the consolation game to gain the third-place medal.
