Wednesday’s Delaware HS state tourney roundup: Frederick gets 200th goal as No. 1 seed Cape girls roll

Wednesday’s Delaware High School state Tournament roundup

Girls

Cape Henlopen 19, Sussex Tech 4

Anna Frederick scored four goals and reached 200 for her career as the top-seeded Lady Vikings rolled to a victory in the first round of the Delaware state tournament Wednesday. Sarah Tappan, Karalyn Joseph and Sarah Young each added three goals for the four-time defending champions (14-1).

For the Lady Ravens, Kellen Cannon led with two goals.

Caravel Academy 26, Mt. Pleasant 15

Eight goals by Isabelle Orticelle, and six each by Olivia Duarte and Heather Wiley paced the Lady Buccaneers to a win over the Lady Green Knights. For the Green Knights, Alyssa More led with seven goals, and Emily Kaye had three.

Wilmington Friends 17, Sanford 12

Seven goals by Brooke Winfield, five by Meryl Gatti, and two by Margo Tschantz paced the Lady Quakers to a win over the Warriors. For the Warriors, Kelsey Mandell and Olivia Thompson each led with three goals.

St. Mark’s 16, Appoquinimink 4

Haley Schweizer’s six-goal performance paced the Lady Spartans to a win over the Lady Jaguars. For the Lady Jags, Delaney Chrisco led with two goals.

Polytech 17, Red Lion Christian 1

Three goals each by Jorden Dennis and Adelaide Stang, and two each by Jenna Hayes, Katherine Richardson and Kyra McCray paced the Lady Panthers to an easy win.

Boys

Caesar Rodney 11, Delmar 5

David Schmidt’s five-goal performance along with four by Sean McLeish and two each by Austin Hayward and Nicholas Gruwell paced the Riders to a win over Delmar. For the Wildcats, Jeremiah Murray led with three goals.

Polytech 12, Sussex Tech 5

After trailing 3-2 in the first quarter, the Panthers scored six unanswered goals and recorded their first tournament win in history. John O Brien scored four goals, Ian Lineweaver had three, and Darnell Jones two. For the Ravens, Ian Carlisle led with two goals.
