Staff Report

Nick Valentino – one of many on the field that play for the Duke’s Lacrosse Club – scored the game-winner with 34.1 seconds left in the first overtime as Hempfield defeated Manheim Township, 7-6, Friday in the Lancaster-Lebanon League championship game at Warwick High School.

The Black Knights (15-5) won their third L-L title and avenged a 9-8 loss to Manheim Township in the regular season. The Blue Streaks fell to 17-2.

Valentino, a senior midfielder, scored from the right wing with a blast past Township goalie Alex Ready (Duke’s LC). He finished with two goals

Dukes players Sean Valentino and Matt Senft also scored for the Knights while middies Colin Strange and Christian Durkota also contributed. Zach Ward (attackman) and Wil Blair (defenseman) also started for Hempfield.

Township’s Chris Rivera – a freshman that plays on the Dukes – had tied the game early in the fourth quarter to make it 6-6.

Ready posted six saves.
