From Press Releases

The Philadelphia University women’s lacrosse team withstood a late Georgian Court rally to earn a 12-10 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory in its regular season finale Sunday afternoon.

The Rams conclude the season with a 13-4 overall record and a perfect 10-0 in the CACC. Philadelphia won the CACC southern division and will open the CACC Tournament on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m.

The Lions go to 8-6-1 overall and 7-3 in conference play.

Freshman attack Liz Mower (Souderton) scored four of her game-high five goals in the first half to help the Rams take a 9-2 lead. Junior midfielder Libby Nichols recorded two of her three goals in the opening 30 minutes, while sophomore attack Allison Brian, sophomore midfielder Lauren Hartman, and senior midfielder Ellen Wright scored once.

Georgian Court got a pair of Molly McCourt goals during a 4-0 spurt to open the second half to close the gap to 9-6.

Philadelphia stopped the charge with consecutive goals from Nichols, Mower, and Brian and regained a six-goal lead (12-6) with 5:23 left.
The Lions found the back of the net four times, three goals coming from Corinne Coyle, in the final 5:23.

Nichols finished the game with a game-high five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Coyle had four goals for Georgian Court, while Olivia Rotunno contributed two goals and a game-high four draw controls.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Moran stopped five shots for Philadelphia to earn the win. Amanda Cathcart made seven saves in a losing effort.

Lock Haven 11, West Chester 6

Kelly Hamilton (Central Bucks South) and Lindsay Walbrant (Souderton) both scored once and Jenna Dingler (Washington Township) was credited with three caused turnovers as the No. 8 Eagles toppled fifth-ranked West Chester.

With the win, Lock Haven (12-1, 9-0 PSAC) moves in sole possession of first place in the PSAC standings. The win over West Chester (11-3, 8-1 PSAC) was The Haven’s ninth straight and kept LHU perfect in conference play.

Lauren Glassey (Henderson) finished with four goals, and Nicole Pyle (Henderson) had two.

West Chester hosts Kutztown at Vonnie Gros Field on Tuesday afternoon, before finishing up the regular season with LeMoyne on Friday and Edinboro on Saturday. Both of those games are on the road. The Kutztown match will be the final game played at Vonnie Gros Field this spring.
