Keith White scored his third of the day with 1:52 left in OT to lift Methacton to a 10-9 victory Tuesday over Owen J. Roberts in a Pioneer Athletic Conference boys’ lacrosse game.
Owen J. Roberts (7-2, 5-1) entered play as the only undefeated team in the league. Methacton improved to 6-4 and 5-2 in the league, earning its first win ever over the Wildcats.
The Warriors rallied from an 8-5 deficit with just over three minutes remaining in the game. Methacton score the next four goals to take a 9-8 lead, but OJR’s Sean Kent tied it with less than a minute left in regulation.
Methacton’s sophomore goalie Jake Blitzer made several outstanding saves, none bigger than the huge save he made with eight seconds left in regulation to force the game to OT. In the OT period both teams had a possession and a chance to win the game.
Methacton junior captain Andrew DeSana caused an OJR turnover, and after a successful clear by the Warriors, sophomore attackman White took a pass in heavy traffic, and scored the game-winner.
Methacton received outstanding senior leadership from Luke Herber, who finished with three goals and three assists. White also finished with three goals and freshman Aiden Denecke added a pair.
On the defensive side, DeSana led the Warriors with five caused turnovers and three groundballs while Blitzer had 15 saves, several from point blank range.
John Pennell and Ryan Kent posted hat tricks for OJR, which dropped back into a tie for first place at 6-1 with two-time defending PAC-10 champion Spring-Ford. The Cats are 7-2 overall.
Great Valley 13, Avon Grove 12
Greg Merrill’s fourth goal of the game tied it with four seconds remaining in regulation and Timmy Lamb won it with a minute remaining in overtime as the Patriots knocked off oreviously-undefeated Avon Grove in a Ches-Mont game.
Ethan Joseph had three goals and Noah Joseph had a goal and five assists as the Patriots (6-3, 2-2) dealt No. 6 Avon Grove (8-1, 2-1) its first defeat.
Peter Hayes made 12 saves in goal for Great Valley.
Bryce Reid led the Red Devils with five goals and Tanner Peck and Stephen Cyron had two each.
