The Philadelphia Wings punched their ticket to the NLL playoffs in dramatic fashion with a 10-9 overtime victory over the league-leading Toronto Rock in the team’s home finale at Wells Fargo Center Saturday afternoon.

The Wings played perhaps their most physical and intense game of the season in the back-and-forth victory over the 10-5 Rock to secure their second playoff berth in as many years. After Toronto tied the game at 9-9 on a penalty shot with under a minute to play, the Wings capitalized early in the extra period as forward Jordan Hall caught a perfect pass from Drew Westervelt and lit the lamp for the deciding goal.

Philadelphia improved its record to 7-8 on the season and currently sits at third place in the East Division.

Goal tender Brandon Miller was a force between the pipes all night long, registering 48 saves, including the 4,000th save of his NLL career, and holding the league’s most prolific scoring team to just 10 goals. Offensively the Wings were led by forward Brendan Mundorf with six points on two goals and four assists and Kevin Buchanan who had two goals and two assists.

In defeat, Josh Sanderson led Toronto with three goals. Casey Beirnes scored a penalty goal for the Rock with under two minutes to play in the fourth to force overtime, on his way to three points on two goals and an assist.

Philadelphia hits the road next Saturday for their last regular season game to face the Washington Stealth in Everett. With another win in Washington and two Rochester losses, the Wings can clinch a home playoff game.
