Thursday’s girls’ HS highlights: Radnor edges Garnet Valley; Mount St. Joseph edges Villa Maria

Kate Stanley scored the game-winner on a free position with 25 seconds left in the second overtime as host Radnor defeated Garnet Valley, 8-7, Thursday in a Central League girls’ lacrosse game.

The Red Raiders – ranked No. 2 by Phillylacrosse.com – improved to 3-0 and 2-0 in the league. No. 9 Garnet Valley is 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the league, both of which are one-goal losses.

These two teams met three times last year with the final meeting resulting in a one-goal win by the Jaguars in the state semifinals. Garnet Valley went on to win its second straight state crown.

Shannon Quinn had two goals and an assist for Radnor while Lyndsey Britton had two goals and three groundballs.

Julia McGrath had two goals and an assist and Emily Matthew had two goals.

Mount St. Joseph 13, Villa Maria Academy 12

In a game that featured numerous ties and lead changes between Catholic Academies powers. , Olivia Gannon (four goals) won it with a free position with 1:16 to play.

The Mount (3-1, 3-1) tied it, 12-12, when Isabelle Balcer scored with 4:04 to play. Gannon had also tied the game at 10-10 and 11-11.

Emilee Ehret had three goals and an assist and Dominique Nyzio had three goals while Christie Mischler added two for the Mount.

Megan Parsons, Caroline Mackrides and Amelia each scored three goals for Villa (3-2-, 3-1) while Catherine Bendinelli had two goals and an three assists.

Haverford High 15, Marple Newtown 11

Amanda Case had five goals to lead the Fords to the Central League win.

Erin Carpenter had four goals for Marple.
