Girls’ roundup: Conestoga defeats Florida power Vero Beach in opener

Catie Smith scored two goals in overtime to lift Conestoga to a stunning 11-9 victory today over Florida power Vero Beach in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The Pioneers, in their opener, got balanced scoring from Smith (three goals, one assist), Meghan McGillis (two goals, two assists) and Maggie Friel (two goals). Mackenzie Orr had a goal and three assists sand Lexy King added a goal and an assist while Claire Jackson and Blake Hamblett each scored once.

Kara Schwartz and Laney Stenson each had three saves in goal.

McDonogh (MD) 17, Episcopal Academy 3

Alexandra Silvera, Kristen Hinckley and Lily Crager each scored for EA (0-2) and Lindsey reder was strong in the cage with 13 saves as it played the No. 1 team in the country.

“I was proud of the way EA played regardless of the early goal deficit and how we still played with intensity the entire game,” said EA coach Amanda Vos Strache. “Lindsey Reder made an impressive 13 saves against some of the best attackers she will see until she moves onto BC next year.

“Kristen Hinckley was unstoppable in the midfield and was instrumental in getting our ball into the attacking end. Lily Crager scored her first career goal in a Varsity game and should be proud to do so against such an incredible team. Alexandra Silvera also scored a beautiful goal to keep the momentum going.”

Springfield-Delco 16, West Chester East 4

Emily Paulus had five goals and two assists while Kate Ryan and Emily Santana added three goals each for the Cougars (2-0).

Lower Merion 13, Germantown Friends 12

The Aces (2-0) came back from a 6-3 halftime deficit to earn the win as Kiersten Daly had six goals and Lindsey Grabell added four. Paige Johnson also scored two and Devon Scharf had 10 saves.

Central Bucks East 16, Emmaus 5

Julie Norek had four goals and one assist while Mary Kate Schwartz and Marissa Glatt both contributed three goals and two assists. Kat Miller and Alex Law each added two goals, and Kelsey Washburn and Nicole Difini (one assist) both had one goal.

East goalie Alana Rivas was credited with 14 saves.

North Penn 15, Ridley 3

Lauren Green led the Maidens with three goals and two assists, and Kaitlin Suzuki also had the hat trick and one assist. Hannah Young chipped in two goals and an assist, and Jules Hill had two goals. Jen DeLongis contributed one goal and two assists, and adding single goals were Brittany Tyson, Chloe Novak, Sydney Lear and Emily Shulze.

Senior Jenna Stover was credited with 12 saves in goal.


Baldwin High 18, Southern Lehigh 10

Lily Shields had four goals for SL.
