Men’s lacrosse: Ursinus improves to 5-0 with 7-3 win over Eastern

Host Ursinus got three goals from sophomore midfielder Ian Moore as the Bears (5-0) rallied from a three-goal deficit with seven straight goals in a 7-3 win over Eastern (3-3) on Tuesday night in men’s lacrosse action.

Four other players netted goals for the Bears, who improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2010.

Ursinus held Eastern off the board in the second half, as freshman goalkeeper Brian Neff (Ephrata) made seven saves in the second half. Ursinus held Eastern to just 11 shots in the final two periods, as he finished with 11 saves overall.

Sophomore Eric Waibel had two goals for the Eagles, while senior midfielder Matt Soldano netted two assists.

Waibel scored the first two goals of the game, the last coming with 12:12 left in the second quarter for a 2-0 lead. The Eagles took a 3-0 lead on a man-up goal by sophomore attack Grant Ferguson with 6:59 left in the quarter.

Ursinus got on the board with 3:54 left in the first half as freshman attack Logan Panaccione scored unassisted, followed by a short-handed goal from Moore with 1:43 left in the half to make it a 3-2 Eastern lead.

In the third, Ursinus tied it with 7:19 left as freshman midfielder Robert Dewey (Radnor) scored his first collegiate goal. Moore added his second goal of the game with 33 seconds left in the third on an assist from sophomore midfielder Jake Weber (Manheim Township).

Freshman midfielder Collin Sullivan scored his first collegiate goal with 11:51 left in the fourth to give Ursinus a 5-3 lead, followed by a goal from junior midfielder Nile Thompson (Lower Merion) on a brilliant assist from sophomore long stick midfielder Adebayo Adeyemo with 9:29 left for a 6-3 lead.

Moore scored his third and final goal with 7:17 left, on an assist from Weber.

Senior long stick midfielder Wytch Rigger had three caused turnovers, while Panaccione and freshman midfielder James Fairchild (Malvern Prep) each had five ground balls.

Ursinus starts Centennial play on Saturday at Swarthmore.
