From Press Release

Alyse Maiden (Washington Township) scored four goals as the host Drexel women’s lacrosse team defeated Villanova, 14-10, at Vidas Field on Wednesday night to improve to 5-0.

Villanova (1-3) had an early two-goal lead in the first half, but Drexel went on a four-goal spurt and never trailed throughout the remainder of the contest. The Dragons outshot Villanova, 30-15, and won 16 draw controls to the Wildcats’ nine.

Villanova’s Elise Bendinelli (Villa Maria Academy) and Hannah Goforth (Bishop Shanahan) gave the Wildcats a two-goal cushion in the opening minutes of the first half. At 23:22, junior Amanda Norcini (Conestoga) answered back with an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to one, 2-1.

Maiden, Kristin Kopenhaver and Kelli Joran (Downingtown East) continued the run helping Drexel to a 4-2 lead. With just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half, Villanova’s Chelsey Henderson added another point bringing the game within one-goal. The Dragons registered three more goals advancing to 7-3 at halftime.

After an unassisted goal by Maiden, the Wildcats’ Maria Bowman scored in the following play closing the gap to four, 8-4. Drexel’s Jessica Rudloff (West Chester East) and Norcini added two more points to give Drexel a 10-4 advantage.

In the following 10 minutes, both teams recorded three goals each. Kelly Palace netted her second goal of the night giving the Dragons’ a 14-7 lead. Villanova scored three more goals, but wasn’t enough to outscore Drexel. The Dragons tallied their fifth straight win of the season.

Rudloff tied her career-high with two goals. Joran, Norcini, Kopenhaver and Palace also added a pair of goals for the Dragons. Joran and Kopenhaver won five draw controls each.
