The Panthers made their third annual trip to the Philadelphia facility where they packed 9,000 pounds of food to help the fight against hunger in Delaware Valley.

“In addition to helping a worthy cause, it serves as a great bonding experience with our team,” said Strath Haven senior captain David Ruffini. “Philabundance is an organization that helps thousands of people who suffer from hunger in the Delaware Valley.

“It’s nice that we get the chance to give back to people who are struggling in our own area while having fun and bonding as a team. It serves as a terrific opportunity to get away from lacrosse and get to know our teammates off the field.”

Added Strath Haven first-year coach Jef Hewlings: “This was my first experience at Philabundance. But aside from a great team building exercise away from the field, and judging by the energy the players showed in packaging food tirelessly for nearly 3 hours, it was clear that our guys want to help those less fortunate – and that, in and of itself, is the real reason for going and what makes this experience special.

“MANY need our help, and if we can, we should. This gives the guys perspective away from the field – teamwork is teamwork, no matter what the task, and I think experiences such as this help us all realize that even though we’re a lacrosse team, it doesn’t always have to be about lacrosse.”
