Women’s lacrosse: La Salle rolls, Princeton tops Villanova; Neumann breezes

Rookie attacker Katelyn Fay (Henderson) erupted for four goals and two assists to lead the La Salle lacrosse squad to a 22-4 romp at Howard on Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

The 22 goals ties a school record, set twice previously. La Salle scored 22 goals on Howard back in 2000 and against Lafayette in 2007.

The Explorers improve to 2-1, while the Bison drop to 0-4.

In addition to Fay’s six points, Jackie Roebuck (Marple Newtown) added three goals and an assist and Caitlyn Brostrand (Camden Catholic) added three goals. Erin McCabe and Lauren McDermott (North Penn) added two goals and an assist apiece.

Five more Explorers recorded two points. Katie Marasco drained two goals, and Lauren Ignacio, Claire Andrews and Alanna Diffendal added a goal and assist. Kelly Furman (Boyertown) assisted on two scores.

Maddy Collins, Katie Fonte and Melanie Sarcinello (Marple Newtown) added a goal apiece to round out the Explorer scoring.

Senior keeper Maura Malone made five saves while picking up the win.

Princeton 10, Villanova 5

The Class of 2016 combined for six goals as the Tigers earned a win over Villanova in their season opener.

Alexandra Bruno, Anya Gersoff and Stephanie Paloscio had two goals apiece and senior Charlotte Davis had two points with a goal and an assist. Annie Woehling (Radnor) made seven saves and Sam Ellis (Radnor) scored once and added three groundballs.

Jessica Mucci had a goal and two assists for Nova.

Loyola 13, Penn State 11

Hannah Schmitt (Archbishop Carroll) had two goals and Katrina Geiger (Haverford High) had a goal, three groundballs, a caused turnover and a groundball while defender Maddie Lesher (Archbishop Carroll) had caused turnovers for Loyola.

Ally Heavens (Garnet Valley) had two goals, a draw control and a groundball for Penn State.


Division III

Neumann 20, Rutgers-Camden 1

Neumann scored big in its home opener as Rebecca Dolenti (Pottsgrove), and Meghan Garsey scored four goals and Suzanne Sheehan (Penncrest) scored three goals.
