From Press Release

Former Lehigh standouts Roman and Cameron Lao-Gosney each scored a goal as the United States men’s national team defeated reigning national champion Loyola, 17-13 in the Champion Challenge on Sunday.

Roman (wearing number 10) and Cameron (number nine) scored consecutive U.S. goals in just 1:01 to turn a 6-6 tie into an 8-6 halftime lead. In addition, Lehigh head coach Kevin Cassese manned the sidelines as an assistant coach for the United States.

Roman gave the U.S. a 7-6 lead with a lefty move before turning and firing a shot past Loyola goalie Jack Runkel with 1:50 left in the first half. Cameron then made it 8-6 with a move down the left side.

Both were listed as “eye-openers” by Inside Lacrosse on Monday. As the article reads: “Destined to be forever sharing headlines, the Lao-Gosneys both played well for Team USA. The little things, like making the extra feed on a rollback or driving to the weak side to spin the ball to X, aren’t exactly sexy plays, but the LGs looked OG every time they handled the ball. Roman’s goal (a sweep to the left into a rolling shot) was a bit nastier than Cameron’s (a lefty alley finish) but both came at key moments for the USA offense.”

Roman assisted on the United States’ 14th goal, which proved to be the game-winner. Cameron also initiated the play which ended with a Chazz Woodson goal.

Loyola, who will enter the Patriot League in 2014, is coming off an undefeated season which ended with a 9-3 win over Maryland for its first-ever national title. All but three starters return this season, including Tewaaraton Award finalist Mike Sawyer and standout short-stick midfielder Josh Hawkins, defenseman Reid Acton, Runkel and long-stick midfielder Scott Ratliff.
