Ridley junior defenseman John Saunders has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at St. John’s University.

John Saunders log:

John Saunders

High school: Ridley High School

Graduation year: 2014

Position: Defense

College choice: St. John’s University

Club affiliation: HEADstrong 2014 Gold

Major lacrosse honors: 2nd Team All Central League, Honorable Mention All Delaware County

What will you major in/study: Accounting and Finance

Why did you choose St. John’s? “St. John’s is a great school academically to attend. The support system they have makes it very hard not to succeed with all your classwork. I love the location, being a huge New York City guy. I am pleased to say that St. John’s is the best possible place for me. I definitely feel the coaching staff, along with the team are a perfect fit for me and I am excited to join the Red Storm.”

Outlook for your high school team in 2013: “Our High School team is a solid unit this year with talent being contributed by all 4 classes. We plan on having a successful season but we are taking it one game at a time. It’s definitely going to be an exciting season this year.”

Other comments: “I would like to say thanks to my coaches: Kevin Ellers, Doug Ellers, Chris Cooks, Scott Berkheimer, Matt Flynn, Steve Hill, Brian Hill and John McSorley. I would also like to thank Andrew Hunt for introducing me to lacrosse and helping me learn the basics skills of defense. I like to give special thanks to my family and friends for supporting me throughout my Lax career and helping me get to the place I am now.”
