The Northmen dedicated their title in the Kelly’s Master Lacrosse Classic to the late Sanderson brothers

The Northmen (N.J.) defeated Philly-based Riverhorse, 5-4, Saturday to take the championship of the inaugural Kelly’s Master Lacrosse Classic at Shipley School.

Six teams from the Main Line (Riverhorse & Kelly’s), Bucks County (Old Dogs), West Chester (Harley), New York (Team 135) and New Jersey (Northmen) competed. It was very evenly matched play with several close games.

Sean Manion (attack) and Brian Mann (goalie) stood out for Riverhorse.

There is a history behind team “Northmen,” whose core team are men that play in the same pick-up-lacrosse league as Chris and Ryan Sanderson – two gentlemen who unfortunately and prematurely lost their lives. Chris Sanderson, a Philadelphia Wings coach and former player, died at age 38 to cancer just recently and Ryan, 36 passed while in his sleep, cause still unknown.

The men’s league continues to grow and thrive in Robbinsville, NJ because of these gentlemen. The name “Northmen” is the name of the team that both the Sanderson’s played on while growing up in Orangeville, Canada.

The team’s pinnies, designed & made by www.uncommonfit.com, brandish the name “Northmen” and the “Northmen” logo, a Viking head. In addition to the team logo, the pinnies also brandish the Canadian Maple-leaf with both the brothers’ numbers, #17 & #4.

The group sets out to honor two gentlemen that have contributed so much and have had such a global impact on the game of lacrosse in so many ways. Chris, three times named to All World Team Selection, was inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2009. Ryan was a three-time Minto Cup winner with the Northmen.

These gentlemen have also given back to the community, most importantly by teaching, coaching and mentoring children in a lacrosse club called “True North”. True North continues to grow and thrive in the Sanderson footprint.

The lacrosse community and their families should know that we play under the Northmen name in Messrs. Sanderson shadows and these gentlemen are forever in our hearts and will never be forgotten.

The Northmen unanimously dedicated this undefeated 4-0 championship win at the Main Line Men’s Master Lacrosse Tournament to both Chris & Ryan Sanderson!
