National Letter of Intent week: Springfield-Delco’s Smyth (St. John’s), Poplawski (Stanford) sign with D1 colleges

Springfield-Delco’s Dan Smyth (St. John’s University) and Alex Poplawski (Stanford) signed their National Letters of Intent today as the early signing period kicked off.

Springfield-Delco’s Dan Smyth (left) and Alex Poplawski signed their respective Letters of Intent today. Smyth will head to St. John’s and Poplawski to Stanford. They are flanked by Cougars boys’ coach Tom Lemieux (left, standing), athletic director Glenn Mallon (center) and girls’ coach Keith Broome.

Smyth was a Second Team All-Central League pick last year for the Cougars and helped the team finish 11-9 and reach the second round of the District 1 tournament. he plays club lacrosse for HEADstrong.

Poplawski is a two-time US Lacrosse All-American and a two-time All-Phillylacrosse.com pick as well as an Academic All-American. She helped the Cougars finish 17-6 and reach the District 1 quarterfinals. Poplawski plays club lacrosse for the Phantastix.

The NLI early signing period runs from Nov. 14-21.
