The Pittsburgh men’s lacrosse team, which made a major step last year in the MCLA, has added several transfers that stood out as high school players in Philly.

Transfers this year include:

Pitt freshman goalie Travis O’Connor (Abington) makes a save in a recent scrimmage as the Panthers faced Washington & Jefferson, Ohio Valley and Mercyhurst

*Junior midfielder Ryan Lord, a two-time All-Phillylacrosse.com and 2010 All-America pick who helped lead Conestoga to two state titles. He attended Maryland the past two years but do not play.

*Junior face-off specialist Josh Sutterfield, a First-Team All-PAC-10 pick at Spring-Ford in 2010. He played two seasons at Cabrini College.

*Sophomore attackman Ryan Flynn, who was a Second team All-Catholic league selection for Archbishop Carroll who had 32 goals and 53 assists as a senior.

Freshmen include:

*Goalie Travis O’Connor, a Second Team All-Suburban One National Conference pick from Abington.

*Defenseman Calvin Kim (Council Rock North).

Last year Pitt advanced to the MCLA Division I championships and finished ranked No. 12 in the nation while junior attackman Tyler Novotny (Spring-Ford) was named an All-American.

  1. Ryan says:

There seems to be some buzz about this program, or is it just the MCLA in general? D2 and D3 schools are usually private therefor extremely expensive. If I was doing it over I’d rather play MCLA at an inexpensive MCLA place like Pitt or Temple. It took forever to pay off my loans and the team I played on probably wasn’t as good as this one.

They played Mercyhurst Northeast (D3) not Mercyhurst University (D2)
