The NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Committee has selected Villanova University as the host school for the 2013 Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship.

Villanova will be serving as host for the first time in the history of the event, which will be held May 24th and 26th at Villanova Stadium.

The men’s Division I Final Four as well as the Division II and Division III championship games will be held that same weekend at Lincoln Financial Field. The Division I semifinals will be held May 25 and the title game on May 27.

This will be the first of two NCAA National Championships Villanova will host in a six month period; Villanova was also selected to host the 2013 Men’s Soccer College Cup at PPL Park in Chester.

“We are thrilled to be named host of the 2013 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship. This event is quickly developing into one of the NCAA’s premiere championship events and Villanova Stadium will be an outstanding venue for it,” Villanova Director of Athletics Vince Nicastro said. “The Philadelphia region is one of the strongest lacrosse communities in the nation, so it promises to be a terrific atmosphere and memorable event for the competitors. We are extremely excited to be a part of it.”

The Division I women’s lacrosse championship was last held in Pennsylvania in 2007, as Northwestern defeated Virginia 15-13 in Philadelphia.

“We are thrilled that the 2013 championship will be making a return to Pennsylvania and are excited to be working with Villanova as host,” said Ann-Marie Guglieri, chair of the NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Committee and senior associate athletic director for internal operations/senior woman administrator at Colgate. “Historic Villanova Stadium will be a great setting that will provide for a rewarding student-athlete and fan experience which is great for the continual growth of the game of women’s lacrosse and our championship.”
