Women’s recruits: Gildea (Springfield-Delco) leads freshmen class at Towson

Towson University women’s lacrosse head coach Sonia LaMonica welcomed a talented 11 player freshmen class to campus for the start of the fall semester.

“Each year our coaching staff looks to bring in recruits that fit our model for success, as both lacrosse athletes and people,” said LaMonica. “I am proud to welcome our class of 2016 who I believe possess these characteristics, and I look forward to the positive impact they will make on our program’s continued journey toward greatness.”

The 11 freshmen will join a Tiger squad that posted a 16-4 record in 2012 and captured the Colonial Athletic Association Championship.

Here’s a quick look at each member of the incoming freshmen class:

Tayler Bowman is the first of two goalkeepers to join the Tigers. Bowman comes from Oswego High School where she was a four-year varsity starter who holds the school record for career saves. Bowman was a three-time High School Under Armour All-American who was the sixth ranked goalie recruit by ESPNHS.

Alyssa Ferro is an attacker from North Babylon H.S. Ferro was a varsity captain as a senior who earned all-league honors this past season.

A wing, Michelle Gildea joins the Tigers from Springfield H.S. in Pennsylvania. Gildea was a two-time All-Delco, All-Central and All-Phillylacrosse.com selection.

A defender/midfielder, Breanna Hamm joins the Tigers from Queen Anne’s County High School. Hamm was a four-year first team North Bayside honoree and was a 2012 Honorable Mention All-American.

Erica Heaphy is a midfielder from the local Centennial H.S. Heaphy was a three-year varsity starter who scored a combined 50 goals with 28 assists in her junior and senior seasons.

Taylor O’Connor is a defender from Perry Hall High School. A three-year team captain, she was a Baltimore County All-Star.

A midfielder, Megan Quinn comes to the Tigers from Kent Island High School. Quinn was a four-year letter winner at Kent Island who led the team in assists as a junior and a senior.

A midfielder, Emily Roth joins the Tigers from the Severn School. She was the Severn player’s MVP as a senior and the school’s defender of the year in 2010.

Alyssa Saxon is a goalkeeper from Rush Heniretta H.S. in New York. Saxon was a three-time all-county selection and a two-time All-Greater Rochester selection.

Alex Simpson, who is an attacker, who joins the Tigers from Westminster High School. Simpson played with current Tigers’ Kelly Murkey and Ashleigh Rohrback at Westminster. She helped lead her team to the state semi-finals as a junior.

A midfielder, Hillary Sorg joins the Tigers from Maryvale Prep School. Sorg was a four-year varsity starter who was an Under Armour Underclass All-Star as a freshman.
