NXTsports will hold tryouts for the NXT Lacrosse Club 2015 and 2016 teams, and for the NXT Trashcan Lacrosse Club 3rd through 8th grade teams this month at Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square.

NXT Lacrosse Club Tryouts

NXT Lacrosse Club 2015 and 2016 tryouts will be held September 22-23 at Episcopal Academy from 1-4 pm each day. The new NXT 2016 team has openings for 24-26 highly talented players, while the NXT 2015 has limited spots available for rising sophomores looking to join the existing team.

NXT welcomes any and all interested players to come to tryouts. There is a $25 tryout fee that is solely designed to cover the cost of facilities, evaluators and trainers. All players will also receive a special NXT/Trashcan tryout lacrosse reversible that is theirs to keep. All players attending tryouts and looking to join the club must be committed to a year-round schedule of practice, training, and participating in an elite Fall and Summer tournament schedule.

NXT Lacrosse Club seeks to differentiate itself from other club programs through passionate, knowledgeable and professional coaching, and by continually focusing on skill building and player development, not just on playing games. In only two years NXTlacrosse has emerged as a consistent force on the elite club circuit.

The 2015 team lost only four games this past summer, advancing deep into the playoffs at the prestigious Crab Feast and Tri-State tournaments. NXT 2014, the original NXT squad, continued to blaze a trail for the program with strong performances at all their summer tournaments, highlighted by a run to the semifinals of the Tri-State Tournament in the Rising Junior AA division.

Said Marty Kupprion, Philadelphia Regional Director for NXT Lacrosse and Head Coach of the 2014 team, “We are extremely proud of the growth of our program, the interest we are now getting for the 2015 and 2016 tryouts confirms that what we are doing is genuine and extremely valuable for players and their families. We are very excited to welcome a new team of 2016 players and their families to the NXT family this fall.”

NXT Lacrosse Club Coaching Additions

NXTsports is also proud at this time to announce new coaching staff additions. First, the coaching staff for the NXT 2016 team will be comprised of Head Coach Brett Manney and Assistant Coaches George Castle and Bill Derrick.

Manney is best known as Director of Communications for NXTsports and as a Defenseman for the Philadelphia Wings. Brett attended Holy Ghost Prep in Bensalem, and played collegiately at the University of Delaware helping the Blue Hens to their only Final Four appearance.

Manney has also played professional in the MLL for the Chesapeake Bayhawks and the Rochester Rattler, and this summer served as a television analyst for the Columbus and Charlotte MLL franchises. A highly popular figure, Manney has coached with NXT since the club’s inception, and also is a member of the coaching staff at Episcopal Academy.

Manney will be assisted by coaches Castle and Derrick. Castle played at Penn Charter and went on to Johns Hopkins where he helped the Blue Jays win two national championships. Castle is a former member of the Philadelphia Wings and plays currently for the Kentucky Stickhorses. He has previously served as a coach in the Trashcan Club program and for Delaware County Christian School.

Derrick is a native of Media, where he twice earned All-State honors playing for Penncrest High School. He played collegiately for Butler University and Salisbury. Derrick has coached in the Trashcan program and also coached at Salisbury School (MD), Greenwich High School (CT), and his alma mater Penncrest.

Second, Warren Danenza will join the NXT program as assistant coach working with both Marty Kupprion’s 2014 team and Andy Hayes’ 2015 team. Danenza is the head boys lacrosse coach at Upper Darby High School and is a high school English teacher. He graduated from Cardinal O’Hara and played collegiately at Neumann College.
