Men’s lacrosse: Neumann names Ridley, Widener grad Malampy as head coach

Neumann University Director of Athletics Chuck Sack has announced the hiring of former Ridley High and Widener University great Cory Malampy as the Knights Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach.

Malampy helped Widener win three Middle Atlantic Conference championship before serving as an assistant there for the last two years.

“We are excited to welcome Cory to Neumann University as our head men’s lacrosse coach”, said Chuck Sack. “His knowledge and appreciation of the Division III environment as well as his positive energy made him the person we felt best to lead our program. He has a great reputation and character and we look forward to his contributions to our community.”

Malampy was responsible for scouting and opposing team evaluations along with player development and fundamentals at Widener.

Malampy served as a captain at Widener his last two years on the field. He posted a solid career at attack by closing with 110 goals, 47 assists and 157 points. Malampy was tabbed second team all-Middle Atlantic Conference in 2009, ending second on the team with 28 goals, 39 points, two game-winning goals and three man-up goals.

He also earned the honor in 2010, closing tied for fourth in the conference with 38 goals, fifth with 52 points, first with five man-down goals and second on the team with 14 assists.

Malampy participated for the U.S. Developmental Lacrosse Team and played throughout North America. Malampy graduated Widener in 2010 with a B.S. in Marketing.

“It is with great pleasure to accept the opportunity to be Neumann University’s head (men’s) lacrosse coach”, said Coach Malampy. “I am very excited for the upcoming season and to introduce my knowledge and experience to the players and the athletics program. I have high hopes and expectations for the team achieving and surpassing all goals.”

In addition to coaching at Widener, Malampy played for the Kentucky Stickhorses in the North American Lacrosse League. He also owns his owns his own landscaping company.

Malampy resides in Ridley Park and graduated Widener in 2010 with a B.S. in Marketing.
