Many Philly players will compete in MLL Championship Weekend in Boston

Many Philly grads will be playing this weekend at the Major League Lacrosse Championship Weekend at Harvard Stadium in Boston, Mass.

Saturday
1 p.m. – Long Island (8-6) faces top-seeded Denver (11-3)
4 p.m. – Host Boston (9-5) faces Chesapeake (10-4) at 4:00 p.m. in the second semifinal.

Sunday
The Steinfeld Cup championship game is set for Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Harvard Stadium.

Denver:
Defenseman Steve Holmes (Germantown Academy, Virginia) has two goals and 14 groundballs for the Outlaws and Matt Bernier (Malvern Prep, Penn State) played in four games this season and returns to the Outlaws after an extended absence. The defender picked up 13 ground balls in four games.

Long Island:

Face-off specialist Greg Gurenlian (Springfield-Delco, Penn State) and MLL Goalkeeper of the Year Drew Adams (Springfield-Delco, Penn State) have been mainstays and look to lead Long Island to the upset victory. Gurenlian leads the league in face-offs won (230) and ground balls (124) and Adams has 179 saves and a .50 save percentage.

Boston:
Midvfielder Pat Heim (Conestoga, Penn State) has recorded 10 points in 12 matches as Boston competes in the playoffs for the third straight season. Last year Heim scored three times in two games as Boston won it all. Defenseman Kyle Sweeney (Springfield-Delco, Georgetown) had 32 groundballs and three goals in his ninth MLL season. Bill McGlone (Ridley, Maryland) has six goals and sevem games. Defenseman P.T. Ricci (Conestoga, Loyola) has a goal and 45 groundballs.

Chesapeake:
Matt Mackrides (Malvern Prep, Penn State) has supplied Chesapeake with valuable minutes off the bench, scoring five times in nine games.
