From Press Release

Penn State men’s lacrosse has been well represented in Major League Lacrosse this season with three Nittany Lions plying their trade at the highest level of professional lacrosse.

A 2012 graduate, Matt Mackrides (Malvern Prep) is playing for the Chesapeake Bayhawks, while recent U.S. Lacrosse call-ups Drew Adams (Springfield-Delco) and Greg Gurenlian (Springfield-Delco) are with the Long Island Lizards. All three former Nittany Lions played against each other last weekend as Chesapeake defeated Long Island, 13-6 on Saturday in Annapolis, Md.

Mackrides has played in nine games this season scoring five times and tallying one assist for the Bayhawks. Chespeake defeated Long Island 13-6 this weekend and is currently tied for first at 10-3 and looking to secure the top seed for the playoffs. Mackrides assisted on the final goal of the game, a two-pointer, to secure the victory. Chesapeake hosts fellow first-place squad Denver on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

Adams has appeared in all 13 games this year, ranking second in minutes played (771:32), fourth in save percentage (.535) and fourth in goals against average (11.51). Adams has accumulated an 8-5 record for the third-place Lizards. Adams made 13 saves against the Bayhawks in the loss this weekend.

Gurenlian is the best face-off specialist in the MLL, 216 of 355 face-offs for a winning a league-best .606 percentage. Gurenlian has also pushed forward, scoring four goals and tallying three assists while picking up a league best 116 ground balls. Gurenlian won 8 of 20 face-offs this weekend.

Long Island plays at Hamilton on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. with a victory sewing up a playoff spot. The winner of the semifinals set for August 25 will play for the Steinfeld Cup on August 26 at Harvard Stadium in Boston.
