Boys’ youth lacrosse: Philadelphia Freedom 2016 wins Bison Brawl championship

The Philadelphia Freedom Lacrosse Club 2016 team claimed the title at the Bison Brawl held on the campus of Bucknell University from July 2-4. With the win, Philadelphia Freedom 2016 earned a ticket to the Dick’s Sporting Good’s Tournament of Champions to be held in Wesley Chapel, Florida Dec. 29-31, 2012.

The team camp began on Monday July 2nd with two games Monday, three games Tuesday and after earning a first round bye, ended with the semi-finals and finals on July 4th.

The team went 7-0 over 3 days beating teams from CT, MD and PA and a thrilling 3-2 OT victory in the finals.

Freedom 13 – Central Susquehanna Lacrosse Club 4
Freedom 6 – Westfield, CT 0
Freedom 6 – Rising Stars Independents 4
Freedom 7 – Next Level, MD 6
SEMI-FINALS: Freedom 3 – Fairport, NY 0
FINALS: Freedom 3 – Rising Stars Independents 2 in OT

The defensive unit, coached by Charlie Rafferty and 2-time Bryant All- American defenseman, Mason Poli, only gave up 21 goals and were led by the play of Bryan Murray, Jon Westlake, Saunders Healy and Ryan McNulty. Goalie, Colin Miller was solid in net all week for Philadelphia Freedom.

The offense was led by Jack Colt (9g-5a), Alex Wagner (13g-11a), Eli Goforth (11g-7a)and AJ Traynor (4g-3a). Midfielders, Beau Schemeusser and David Gallagher controlled the face-offs in every game.

Goforth, Bryan Murray, Traynor, Alex Wagner and Jon Westlake were all named to the Bison Brawl Team Camp All-Star team and played in the All-Star game on Tuesday evening.
