From Press Release

University of Delaware women’s lacrosse standout freshman midfielder Caitlin McCartney (Archbishop Wood) has been named to the Synapsesports.com National All-Rookie squad.

McCartney, a native of Doylestown, was one of 16 NCAA Division I players selected to the national team by the website. The website also announced its All-American team, honoring 48 players on the three teams.

McCartney enjoyed an outstanding rookie campaign as she was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year while also earning first team All-CAA and second team Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic Region honors. In addition, she was a three-time CAA Rookie of the Week and earned the team’s UD Alumni Association Most Valuable Player Award.

She tied for the team lead in goals with 35 tallied and was second in total points with 39, just two below team leader Chelsea Fay. She scored three or more goals in a game six times, including a season-high four vs. Denver, Villanova, and George Mason and three in her collegiate debut vs. then No. 2 ranked Maryland. She also led the team in free position goals (11) and groundballs (37), was second in draw controls (39), and was third in caused turnovers (14).

“Caitlin is the type of athlete who makes big plays when big plays are needed,” said Delaware head coach Kateri Linville, who recently completed her second season at the helm of her alma mater. “She was always one of our top performers on gameday. It is exciting to think that we will have her here for the next three years.”

McCartney was joined on the team by Washington Township graduate Taylor Fousaddier (Penn), Nora Berry (Florida), Tatum Coffey (Penn State), Mallory Collins (Boston University), Tory DeScenza (Ohio State), Kelsey Gahan (Virginia), Shannon Gilroy (Florida), Maggie McCormick (Penn State), Kelly McPartland (Maryland), Mikeela Rix (Boston College), Michelle Rubino (Stony Brook), Covie Stanwick (Boston College), Barbara Sullivan (Notre Dame), Annie Thomas (Loyola), and Kailah Kempney (Syracuse). Coffey was named the national Rookie of the Year.

In addition to the All-Rookie Squad, Synapsesports.com selected Florida’s Mikey Meagher as Goalkeeper of the Year; Northwestern’s Taylor Thornton as Defender of the Year; Syracuse’s Michelle Tumolo (Clearview Regional) as Attacker of the Year; Northwestern’s Gabrielle Filbotte as Unsung Hero of the Year; and Oregon’s Jen Larsen-Back as Coach of the Year.
