Staff Report

Inside Lacrosse has reported (see story) that Yale assistant coach Ryan Polley, a 1995 Malvern Prep graduate, will be named the first men’s lacrosse head coach at Boston University.

Polley has been an assistant at Yale for six seasons, serving the last two seasons as defensive coordinator. Yale’s defense was considered its strength this year when the Bulldogs qualified for the NCAA Tournament with an at-large bid in 2012.

Polley previously served as head coach at his alma mater, Division III Merrimack College, for three seasons, and posted a 28-13 record. Merrimack is located about 30 miles north of BU.

BU announced in February that it will add men’s lacrosse and will probably start play in 2014. Just recently, BU announced it would move from the America East to the Patriot League.

Polley was a 2011 inductee into the Malvern Prep Hall of Fame. Polley was named All-Inter-Ac lacrosse in 1994 and 1995, and was a member of the 1995 Inter-Ac championship basketball team.

He also was a captain of the ‘94 Inter-Ac championship football squad and earned the honor of being named to the all-decade team by the Daily News and was named first team all-city and all-Inter-Ac.
