Long-time assistant Brian Grady has been named boys’ lacrosse coach at Germantown Academy, Athletic Director Jim Fenerty announced today.

Grady, who has spent the past eight seasons as an assistant coach under former coach David Martin, is also a Lower School physical education teacher.

“We are very excited to have Brian lead the Patriots boys’ lacrosse team,” said Fenerty. “He provides great continuity to our competitive program and I know the team is looking forward to working with him in this formal capacity.”

“I would like to thank Athletic Director Jim Fenerty and Head of School Jim Connor for providing me with this opportunity,” said Grady. “I’d also like to thank Dave Martin for providing me with a tremendous example of how to lead, educate, and coach young men during my eight years as his assistant.

“I’m feeling both privileged and honored to have the opportunity to become the lacrosse coach here at GA,” Grady continued. “I look forward to working with the student-athletes here at GA as we face the rigors of the Inter-Ac League, which is regarded as one of the best high school lacrosse leagues in the country.”

Grady has been involved in lacrosse at all levels. He currently serves as a player evaluator and team selection consultant for Pre Game Lacrosse and has been a Field Director for MVP Lacrosse Camps and Tournaments for the past nine summers. For three seasons, Grady was an assistant men’s lacrosse coach for the Rutgers University team, where he helped the Scarlet Knights compete in two NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournaments and was a member of the 2003 ECAC Coaching Staff of the Year.

Grady also spent seven seasons on the staff at the Virginia Military Institute and was the varsity lacrosse coach at Fork Union Military Academy for one season.

The 1989 St. Lawrence University graduate began his tenure at GA in 2004 and, in addition to his teaching responsibilities, has been a three-season coach, guiding the Patriots Middle School JV soccer and Middle School third team basketball squads for the past few years.

The 2012 Patriots finished the season 10-10 overall and 4-6 in the Inter-Ac League.
