Peter Donato scored an unassisted goal 52 seconds into overtime today to lift Radnor to a 5-4 victory over Garnet Valley in a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) boys’ lacrosse playoff at Henderson High.

Radnor (17-7), the fifth seed out of District 1, advances to Saturday’s quarterfinals to meet the winner of District 1 champion Conestoga and Hempfield. Garnet Valley, the District 1 runner-up, closes at 17-7 after the loss to its Central League rival.

Radnor took a 4-1 lead early in the second half when Mike Cherry scored on a bull rush to the net. The Jaguars then began to rally as Mike Selverian scored a minute later on a strong solo effort. GV cut the lead to 4-3 when Kevin McGroarty beat Brendan Manderack with 7:57 left in the final quarter.

Then with just 42.5 seconds left in regulation, Robert Raucci tied it on a behind-the-back goal.

Radnor had seized the lead, 2-1, late in the first quarter when Ben Junior scored unassisted. Kevin Hartmett made it 3-1 after taking a feed from Tom Hemcher following a Garnet Valley giveaway.
