District 11 boys’ championship: Allentown Central Catholic downs Emmaus, 7-6, for second straight title

Sophomore Jack Glemser’s wrap-around goal with 2:32 remaining in regulation broke a 6-6 tie and lifted Allentown Central Catholic to its second consecutive District XI title, 7-6 over Emmaus tonight at Emmaus’ Memorial Field.

Central Catholic (14-6), which had dropped 15 straight and 16 of its last 17 to Emmaus dating back to 2005, advances to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament to meet Manheim Township, the No. 3 team from District 3, at 7 p.m. Tuesday back at Emmaus’ Memorial Field.

Emmaus (14-7), the Lehigh Valley Conference champs, ends its season at 14-7. The Hornets were aiming for their third District XI title in the last four years.

Senior Steve Mussoline led the Vikes with a hat trick while Matt Savage, Jeff Gulyas and Kevin Gulyas each scored once. Senior goalie Bob Hayman was outstanding in the second half, allowing just a pair of goals.

Junior Andrew Brown had a hat trick for Emmaus while Nicholas Tonno, Travis Schmidt and Marc Feldman added solo tallies.

Both teams had 20 shots on goal and were even on the faceoff X, 8-8.

Central Catholic 1-1-4-1 – 7
Emmaus 1-3-2-0 – 6
