The 2012 NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse championship tournament brackets were released Sunday evening, with Lynchburg College – led by numerous Philly grads – receiving a bye into the second round.

Unionville grads Joe Lisicky (left) and Jon Gill helped lead Lynchburg to the Old Dominion Conference championship and a first-round bye in the Division III tournament. Lisicky was named league MVP and Gill was an all-tournament pick and second-team all-league choice. Many other Philly grads also made key contributions.

The tournament’s first round begins Wednesday, May 9 featuring 24 of the 28 teams with just four teams earning byes: Cortland State, Tufts University, Salisbury University and LC. The Hornets will host the winner of a first round match-up between Denison University and Adrian College this weekend on a day and time to be announced later in the week. The victor advances into the national quarterfinals and will be one of just eight teams remaining.

Lynchburg enters the tournament having won 16 straight games, including a 10-4 victory over Washington & Lee University Sunday afternoon in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title game. The Hornets have reached the NCAA Tournament six times, the last in 2008.

Lynchburg junior defenseman Joseph Lisicky (Unionville) earned Player of the Year for the third-ranked Hornets. Anchoring one of the best defenses in the nation, the junior leads the team in caused turnovers (37) and is second in groundballs (84). He has added five goals on the year and provided help in other aspects of the game, which do not show up in the statistics. To go with the award, Lisicky was named to the All-ODAC first-team.

Joining Lisicky on the ODAC first-team all-league squad is senior Dylan Hoff (Downingtown East). Hoff (50 goals, 28 assists this season) ranks as the top goal scorer and point scorer in the ODAC this year and in Lynchburg College career history.

Earning second-team honors are Jon Gill (Unionville), also an all-tournament pick, and junior midfielder Max Voumard (St. Augustine Prep). Gill is a member of a defense that has allowed a miniscule 6.04 goals a game this season. Voumard has 27 goals.

The defense also featured senior Ben Wright (Central Bucks East), a starter in every game. Also making contributions were freshman attackman Andrew Blundin (Salesianum School), who has seven goals; sophomore midfielder Campbell Armstrong (Great Valley), sophomore attackman Dave Alyanakian (Strath Haven, three goals), freshman defenseman Evan Leeder (Salesianum School) and senior defenseman Rob Day (Lansdale Catholic).
