Great Valley dominated from start to finish and claimed an 18-5 victory Thursday night over host Henderson in a Ches-Mont League girls’ lacrosse showdown for first place.

Ali Karwoski (four goals, one assist) and Emily Scullin (four goals) led the attack as the top-rated team in the state improved to 15-0 overall and 9-0 in the league while taking a major step toward a Ches-Mont title. The Patriots Can finish undefeated in the league with wins over Sun Valley and Kennett next week.

Henderson (13-2) is 8-1 in the league.

“We knew we needed to bring our A-game,” said Karwoski. “If it was anything less, Henderson would have taken advantage of it. From square one, we had to go out and earn the win.”

The Patriots dominated on both ends of the field and won almost every draw. They were able to control possessions and score key transition goals. Great Valley coach Joe Tornetta was thrilled with his team’s performance.

“This was a well, hard-fought win tonight,” said Tornetta “Anything can happen out there, so we were fortunate to get it done. Henderson’s a great team so this says a lot about the girls. They’ve earned to be in the position they are in.”

Also for Great Valley, Brittany Edwards had three goals and an assist and Brooke Gamble and Kim Hooven each scored three goals. Kristen Hale added a goal and an assist and Caitlin Kratzer had a goal while Jenna Morris made eight saves.

Great Valley has three games left on the year, two in which league games. (Sun Valley, Kennet). Their next game is on Saturday against a strong Conestoga team.

For Henderson, sophomore Katie O’Donnell scored three goals and Katelyn Fay added a pair.

Despite the loss, Warriors coach Kim Jackson was proud of her team’s effort and credited Great Valley.

“The girls came out strong, but we made some turnovers that they capitalized on,” she said. “We knew that we needed to play a perfect game tonight, but we just made a few mistakes.”
