Tyler Earley scored four goals and Jackson Tamasitis made 16 saves in net for Penn Charter as the Quakers surged in the second half and earned an impressive 11-5 victory over The Hill School Saturday at the 12th annual Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival at Radnor High.

The Quakers (8-10) outscored the Blues, 6-1, in the second half to break open a tight game. Hill fell to 7-3.

“We played well running our offense today,” said Earley, who recently committed to Penn following a PG year at Deerfield Academy (Mass.). “But we know we need to keep playing four quarters going back into Inter-Ac games.”

Midfielder Drew Murray added three goals for the Quakers while long pole John Moderski contributed a goal and some key stops on defense.

“We started off well, which we don’t usually do,” said Penn Charter coach Pat McDonough. “The game plan was to move the ball around so we could create good angles for our shooters. They did a really good job of that today.”

Hill School was limited on the day due to costly penalties. The Blues never gained momentum. Eric Foote and Jack Wallice each scored twice for the Blues.

“We hurt ourselves with penalties during the second half,” said Hill School coach Ned Ide. “It was hard to bounce back when we didn’t have all of our guys out there.”

Win or loss, both coaches agreed that the game was enjoyable since it was benefiting a good cause.

“This game is a nice tradition,” said Ide. “We have played each other here that last 13 years, and knowing the Samson family personally it really makes us feel good to play in honor of Katie, and help others while doing so.”

Coach McDonough also was very aware of the atmosphere today. “As much as you want to win the game, it really is just for a good cause. I think everybody wins on a day like today.”
