Billy Oppenheimer had four goals and and assist and Jake Adoni made 15 saves as visiting Germantown rallied past Episcopal Academy, 7-5, today in Inter-Ac League boys’ lacrosse.
The win was the first in the Inter-Ac for GA (6-7, 1-4) and dropped EA (11-3, 3-2) two games behind first-place Haverford School.
The Patriots were down, 5-2, midway through the third period and still trailed, 5-3, in the fourth period as they staged an impressive dramatic comeback. GA had taken a 2-0 lead before the Churchmen scored five straight goals.
Reid Weber scored two goals for GA and Connor Crump scored once. Greg Shildkrout added two assists.
“We locked it down on defense and caused couple some turnovers and then the offense started putting in some goals,” said Adoni.
The Patriots’ defense was led by junior Brad Garcia, sophomore Hayes Molte and freshman Sam Lerman, forced into action due to an injury. Drew Peterson was the long pole and short-stick middies included Ryan Murphy and Aaron DePue.
Adoni said the Patriots began playing to their potential last Thursday in a one-goal loss to Malvern Prep.
“I think it really started last Thursday with the 5-4 loss,” he said. “We were in it the whole game and just couldn’t pull it out. But that gave us confidence going forward. Now, hopefully we’ll keep it up.”
Connor Haab scored two goals for EA and Sam Lawlor had a goal and two assists.
