Inter-Ac League boys’ wrap: Finley OT goal lead Malvern Prep past Penn Charter; Haverford School tops GA

P.J. Finley won the face-off to open overtime and scored the game-winner just 13 seconds into the extra frame today to lift Malvern Prep to a 7-6 victory over host Penn Charter today in an Inter-Ac League boys’ lacrosse opener.

Finley won 13 of 17 face-offs overall and Jake Glancy scored twice for the Friars (3-3). Matt Barrett made nine saves.

“Coach (Kurt) Fisher, (MP F/O coach) and I decided to play with Penn Charter’s wing guys and try to be unpredictable,” Finley said. “I had thoughts about going forward in overtime, but (Tommy) Monzo, (PC player) was protecting the fast break so I went behind to myself and thankfully it worked out.”

For PC (4-7), Shane Carr and Kevin Murphy each had two goals and an assist and Tyler Earley scored two goals. Jackson Tamasitis had 12 saves and played standout goal especially in the second half when the Quakers forged a comeback from a 6-2 halftime deficit.

Penn Charter has lost four games by one goal, three in overtime. The other three losses are by three or fewer goals.

Haverford School 12, Germantown Academy 7

Zach Rego pumped in four goals and Henry Blynn had three goals and four assists while Gavin McBride added three goals and an assist to lead the Fords (8-1) in their Inter-Ac opener.

Will Gural won 16 of 20 face-offs and Jake Landman (five saves) earned the win.

Reid Weber and Jacob Jordan led GA with two goals each while Billy Oppenheimer had a goal and three assists and goalie Jake Adoni posted 13 saves.

Episcopal Academy 11, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy 1

EA improved to 8-1 with the victory as Tyler Odell scored five goals.
