Thursday’s boys’ roundup: EA handles St. Joe’s Prep; Abington rallies past Downingtown East

Tyler Odell exploded for seven goals and visiting Episcopal Academy raced to a 9-0 halftime lead and claimed a 14-4 victory Thursday over St. Joseph’s Prep at Cabrini College.

Morgan Westby scored three goals, Jon Garino won 12 of 14 face-offs and Dutch Buckley added four assists for the Churchmen, who are 7-1.

Abington 11, Downingtown East 7

The Ghosts, trailing 6-4 after three periods, rallied in the fourth period with seven goals to claim the victory.

Ryan Ambler had four goals and four assists while Max Malloy added three goals and one assist and Travis O’Connor made 16 saves.

Kyle Lauletta scored four goals for the Cougars.

Lawrenceville School 14, Princeton 2

Steffen Gratch had three goals and six assists and Nick Giacco to help the Big Red improve to 5-0. Gratch, a transfer from the Hun School, now has 100 career goals and 81 career assists for his high school career.


Springfield-Delco 11, Owen J. Roberts 10

Mark Gurenlian won 22 of 25 face-offs and Steve Halko scored five goals to lift the Cougars.

Nick Tordone led OJR with three goals and assist.

Springside Chestnut Hill 6, Shipley 4

Forrest Rall had the game-winner and Tasso Karras scored four goals for Chestnut Hill in its victory.

Mac Gallagher and Mike Litner each had two goals and an assist for Shipley.

Germantown Academy 17 Wissahickon 4

Billy Oppenheimer had four goals and five assists and Reid Weber collected four goals and four assists as GA toppled the Trojans.

Brunswick School (CT) 10, Penn Charter 9, OT

Drew Murray tallied three goals for the Quakers in their loss to New England prep power Brunswick.

Radnor 11, Plymouth Whitemarsh 4

Mike Barnes won 13 of 14 face-offs to lead the Red Raiders.

Nick Swift scored two goals for PW.

North Penn 6, Easton 5

The Knights rallied for four goals in the final period and Kyle Heinig led the charge with four goals and an assist and Mike Tappen had 19 saves in goal.

Avon Grove 13, Methacton 11

Tanner Peck collected five goals and an assist to lead the Devils.

Haverford High 15, Sun Valley 7

Kevin Leyden netted five goals to spark the Fords to the victory.
