Will Gural won 18 of 22 face-offs for Haverford School, ranked No. 7 by the MaxPreps.com.

the Hawks had seized a 3-1 lead early in the game before the Fords rallied.

“We really pulled it together,” said Haverford School senior midfielder Will McNamara. “It was tough in the first half. We were trying to find our identity for the game. (after SJP pulled out to the lead). We had to get it together. Coach (John) Nostrant pulled us in and made us realize what we needed to and we finished strong.”

The Hawks got a brilliant effort in goal from junior goalie A.J. Simon (17 saves) and two goals from Anthony Marini.

“I thought I played okay but I couldn’t have done it without my defense,” Simon said, “Haverford is great. It was disappointing we had to lose. We worked really hard. We will be competing…”

Added St. Joe’s Prep coach Eric Gregg: “I am a big fan of AJ; he is our rock back there. He helps our defense play confidently.

“We are young and that is a good thing. It’s a total team thing. We have six seniors so we are looking forward to the development of the team. Haverford is a great team and good teams make you pay. Today they made us pay 13times. We look forward to looking at the film and find where we can get better.”
