Philly girls’ high school lacrosse previews: Henderson, Great Valley, Downingtown West, Archbishop Carroll

This is one of a series of previews for the 2012 Philly lacrosse season

Henderson

Coach: Kim Jackson, 26 years

Last Year’s Record/Accomplishments: 13 – 6, Lost to Haverford in first round of Districts

Key Returnees:
Kate Fay – attack #14 (leading goal scorer, over 200 career goals, first team all chesmont, Philly 1, going to West Chester University)

Katie O’Donnell – midfield #5 (second leading scorer, second in assists as freshman least year, all chesmont, Philly 2, PASLA rookie of the year 2011)

Erin Anderson – defender #19 (led team in caused turnovers, all chesmont, Philly 4, committed to George Mason)

Key newcomers: Maddie Schaeffer – defender, Rachel Fuller – midfield

Outlook for 2012: “Strong offensive duo of Fay and O’Donnell along with a talented supporting cast should prove to put goals on the scoreboard. Defensively we will have to solidify a strong defensive unit which will be lead by senior Erin Anderson. Many talented teams out there without any real front runners. It’s anyone’s for the taking.”

Great Valley

Coach: Joe Tornetta , 22 Years

Last Year’s Record/Accomplishments: 2nd place in the Ches-Mont, 4th in District 1 and final four in PIAA State Championships

Key Returnees:
Ali Karwoski (Mid), Catherine Shaughnessy (Mid), Jackie Moccia (Def), Brooke Gamble (Attack), Emily Scullin (Attack), Jenna Morris (Goalie), Caitlin Kratzer (Attack), Kim Hooven (Def)

Key Newcomers: Brittany Edwards (Attack), Avery Murphy (Midfield) Kirsten Hale (Midfield), Danielle Strang (Defense), Jackie Douglas (Def)

Outlook for 2012: “ Team is showing a lot of promise and they hope to be competitive in the always tough ChesMont League.”

Downingtown West

Coaches: Kelee O’Malley – 8th year
Courtney Trego – 8th year
Emily Ernest – 3rd year

2011 Record: 8-9 overall

2012 Coach’s Outlook: “We are looking for the entire team to work together and improve our record from last year. It is hard to pick out girls as standouts, because we think that they all will be positive contributors to our team this year. We have a lot of young, enthusiastic girls on the team and we are hoping that they work hard and continue to improve each day. We want to stay focused, believe in ourselves and work hard to reach the goals we have set for this season.”

Archbishop Carroll

Coach : Lorraine Beers, 13 years

Last year’s won-loss record : 18 – 4 and PCL 11-0
