March 15, 2012 by Chris Goldberg

This is one of a series of previews for the 2012 Philly lacrosse season

Episcopal Academy

Coach: Amanda Vos Strache, First year (EA assistant coach 2011)

Last year’s win-loss record: League Record – Undefeated, Overall Record 18-3

Players lost to graduation:
Taylor Trimble (Duke)
Maggie Forker (Vanderbilt)
Blake McHugh (Northwestern)
Claire MacManus (Cornell).

Team strengths: “Anchored by a strong defense and strong speed throughout the team. Offensively the team will be a threat again with lots of different players who are stepping up into starting roles to lead the new attack.”

Team outlook: “Despite graduating a strong senior class, EA is looking to defend its league title and continue to generate a dynamic attack. With a very difficult non-league schedule which includes Garnet Valley, Radnor, and Downingtown East, EA hopes to maintain a high level of play throughout the season. The girls have an incredible work ethic and speed across the team. They are looking to work off of last year’s success and continue to raise their level of play.”

Germantown Academy

Coach: Ginny Hofmann- 34 years

Assistant coaches: Brooke Watson, Ted Haynie

Last year’s record: 5-15 overall, 2-10 league

Notable losses: Graduated- Kathryn Bolen, Alex Farris, Tracy Duryea, Sammi Hurley, Sally Anne Greenwood

Key returnees:
Brooke Kiley, Senior, Midfield, Leading scorer, Penn
Caroline Haynie, Jr, Attack, 2nd leading scorer
Kelli Stack, Sr, Midfield
Cooper Hall, So, Midfield
Marley Sternberg, So, Defense

Others to watch:
Megan McNamara, Sr, Defense
Hadley Hall, Sr, Attack
Lizzie Tillger, Jr, Attack

Strengths: “We should be strong on attack with our leading scorers back and solid on the defense.”

Question marks: “We will have a new goalie and will be blending in some new players so we will need to see how we work as a unit.”

Outlook for the season: “I’m excited about the season. We are working hard on increasing our fitness, honing our stick skills and going all out for loose balls. We expect to be competitive in the league and hoping to improve on last year’s record.”
