Saturday’s Philly Division 3 men’s roundup: Ursinus, Gwynedd Mercy cruise; Rosemont loses in program opener

Ursinus College got four goals and two assists from sophomore midfielder Dylan Spangenberg (Malvern Prep) as the Bears (3-1) defeated Richard Stockton (2-2) 12-5 in a men’s lacrosse matchup Saturday at chilly Patterson Field.

Freshman attack Mark Stratton (Manheim Township) also added in two goals and two assists as the Bears forced 24 Osprey turnovers in the win.

Ursinus had a strong defensive effort in the win, holding Stockton to 12-for-22 on clears. Freshman defender Cody Lefevre had three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Four players, including Spangenberg, had four ground balls.

In goal, junior T.J. Magnani (St. Mark’s) had 14 saves in 45 minutes, while senior Matt Columbini had two in the final period.

Gwynedd Mercy 15, Mount St. Mary 2

Seven different players scored as Gwynedd-Mercy (2-2) stormed past visiting Mount Saint Mary.

Sophomore Nathan Pendleton (Cumberland Valley) led the offense with four goals. Senior Craig Trueblood added three scores and two assists.

Seniors Stefan Hetland (Garnet Valley) and Nick Coan (Garnet Valley) each chipped in two goals apiece. Hetland also posted a game-high three assists. MSM goalie Connor Haran was kept busy, making 25 saves. Ryley O’Keefe (Bishop Shanahan) made five stops.

Denison 11, Haverford College 7

Zach Cohen had three goals and two assists for the Fords (1-4) in their loss to No. 15 Denison (4-0).

McDaniel 8, Eastern 6

JS Duke (Upper Dublin) led the winning Green Terror (4-2) with a hat trick.

Will Johnson led Eastern (2-2) with two goals.

Messiah 25, Rosemont 2

The Falcons made Rosemont’s first game ever a difficult one with a lopsided loss.

The Ravens were down 12-0 before freshman Justin Regan tallied the program’s first-ever goal. Regan also scored the other Rosemont goal.

Heath Kupecky had a goal and an assist and three groundballs for Messiah.

Lebanon Valley 17, Immaculata 8

Joey Shallow (Lower Merion) led the Mighty Macs (0-4) with four goals and two assists for six points. Tayler Acree added one goal and two assists while Ben Tuscai (West Chester East) and Bhelly Bagbonon each finished with one goal and one assist.
