From Press Release

Drexel scored six straight goals in the second half and went on to defeat Saint Joseph’s, 8-4, today in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams. The Dragons improved to 2-3 on the season with the victory.

Robert Church led a balanced scoring attack for the Dragons with two goals and two assists. Aaron Prosser also had a pair of goals. Brendan Glynn (St. Joseph’s Prep) also had a multiple-point performance with a goal and an assist.

The Dragons controlled the pace for most of the day and had the ball in the offensive end for the majority of the contest. Drexel hit the pipe on at least six occasions including two early in the contest. Despite outshooting the Hawks, 17-2, in the first period, the Dragons were unable to get on the board as the teams played to a scoreless first period.

Prosser finally broke the drought in the first minute of the second period with his first goal of the day. The lead didn’t last long as the Hawks scored twice in the span of 47 seconds on goals by Ryan McGee (two goals) and Johnny Simanski. They held that lead until Church set up Glynn with just under six minutes left in the half. The tams would go to intermission tied at 2-2.

The Hawks (2-3) took what turned out to be their last goal of the game less than two minutes into the third quarter. Kyle Williams came from around the net and fired a shot high over Mark Manos (Salesianum School), putting the Hawks ahead, 3-2. Ryan Belka tied it for Drexel a few minutes later, and, after a stretch of six minutes with no scoring for either team, the Dragons offensive pressure finally paid off.

Clifton Simeon set up Ben McIntosh, giving Drexel a one goal lead. Less than a minute later, Church fired a shot home for his first of the game. The Dragons then went on the man-up and increased the lead to three when Church fed Aaron Prosser right in front for his second of the game.

The lead extended to 8-3 in the fourth. Kyle Bergman picked up an assist with a feed to Church. Then Brendan Glynn set up Garrett McIntosh for his first of the year. Saint Joseph’s added a goal midway through the quarter to make the final score 8-4.

Drexel outshot the Hawks 49-16. Deven Thomas had a big day for the Dragons, winning 11 of 15 face-offs. Griffin Ferrigan came up with 14 saves which helped keep the Hawks in the game. Mark Manos picked up four saves in the Drexel cage.
